This Little Cookie....the beginning

Going against the grain seems to be part of my nature, however, I assure you, this was totally unplanned. This story is not quite about I how I came to the cookie, rather, it's how the cookie came to me, and later on, feeling the buzz, Juraj was in.

More than just a sweet treat, the cookie is my personal symbol of freedom.

There's much more to this story to come, though suffice it to say, for a kid who (at the tender age of 13), started her food and body image war with anorexia, followed closely by bulimia then more than two decades of a distorted relationship with food and the body, the cookie is a major feat.

To be able to not only prepare it, let alone have kilos of cookie dough in the fridge & freezer, on top of kilos of chocolate, this would have been torture only months ago, sending me reeling back into the black hole of binging, guilt, shame,
self loathing....

That's all gone. No more restrictive eating. No more insane stress on my body through exercise. No more fooling myself. Lots of water, sometimes no food at all, and eating out of joy, for sheer pleasure.

With great thanks to almost a month without a morsel of food, (26 days on predominantly water), I came out the other side reborn.

With further love for myself, came the further love for food - cooking and baking with total freedom.

-As beings of light, wearing a human body, all of our senses are touched by food. It's hard to imagine I ever hated it.-

Back to the cookie, it made it's way back into my radar at a time when I was again binge eating, this time very much on purpose, and not alone.

My dear husband, and co-creator,  was with me, partner in crime, and we were unraveling together, eating all kinds of crap, and mostly cookies. But, wouldn't you believe it, all those cookies we devoured, and never did I come across a chocolate chip/chunk cookie that matched the ones I loved back home, in Canada.

Hence, the cookie was born. Some time after the water cleanse, I 'trial and errored' numerous "best ever" chocolate chip cookie recipes, and came to my own, with an extra pinch of this and that, (as well as a few different flavors including peppermint and gingerbread (Slovak 'pernik').

Most importantly, I quite literally bless each cookie with love, before and after they've been baked by my good old oven, Genvieve. Without a stand mixer, much of the work is done the old fashion way, with heart, by hand, - and quite happily so. :)

I never planned any of what is going on now. It was never my dream to bake for others, let alone sell my cookies (and shortbread)....But here we are, four cafes later, and a lot of very happy people, getting a little piece of love and freedom, straight from my heart. Try just one bite and you'll know what I mean. :)

This "tough cookie" is no longer, rather simply, "This Little Cookie."

Thanks for coming along and taking part in this journey of ours.

As always, may you be blessed with lots of love and peace, whether or not you ever eat my cookies. ♥

Ingredients in "This Little Cookie."

Manj aka Maruška

The artsy fartsy in the family, Manj is actually "This Little Cookie."

She takes great pleasure in testing new cookie flavours along with different recipes, namely the vegan cookie- for the more health conscious - and very much shares her heart through cookies.

Whilst in Canada, she's a running solo show, doing everything from product development, baking, artwork and packaging, marketing, website updates and whatever else needs doing. :)

Our "Little" Cookie

80 grams of chocolatey goodness - soft in the middle, with a crunch along the edges, and fully loaded with a whole lotta love - by no means is our cookie "little."

It is traditional as the cookie gets with ingredients akin to what you'd find in most cookies, though this one has a few special ingredients.

The physical ingredients are simple and usual:  Unbleached wheat flour, butter, eggs, brown sugar, honey, himalayn sea salt, baking soda, vanilla extract or 100% pure peppermint (essential oil), copious amounts of hand cut chocolate (milk, white and dark, depending on cookies), and a whole lot of love.

Available flavours as at Fall 2016:

Chocolate Chunk (with a mix of dark and milk chocolate)

White Chocolate Chunk Peppermint

If you've been following us for the time we've been in operation, you would remember Manj's very own recipe for vegan cookies- which may be ordered upon request.

The special part is that Manj practises the art of slowness well into her cookies. Each and every cookie is blessed with love from batter to packaging, and their are numerous stages involved resulting in the best cookie in the world, which takes no less than 3+ days to prepare. That's as far as it goes with secrets. ;O
